Globally, there are 3 billion active social media users. EcoPost uses the vast influence of social media to incentivize people to be aware and take action on environmental issues in their daily lives.

Inspiration

We have always been interested in the planet and helping it. Social media is a great way to raise awareness and get younger adults involved in protecting our planet.

What it does

We created a website that functions as a social media platform that encourages users to be more aware of their carbon footprint in their daily lives. We can intertwine caring about our environment with social media in an engaging and incentivizing way, especially for younger audiences. Users can post their daily actions along with captions where they will get feedback from other users with the upvote and downvote system. More upvotes will be given if the post is more eco-friendly.

How we built it

We utilized HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, Atom, and Java Spring Boot. There was a lot of front end coding, and we implemented some back end coding.

Challenges we ran into

We are not experienced in back-end coding, but we tried to make it work within the time limit. Our website is functional and represents most elements that would be included if completed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a functioning webpage and showcase our different capabilities .

What we learned

We learned how to create a cohesive project in a short period of time as well as put together our different skillsets.

What's next for EcoPost

We would like to make the pages more dynamic and incorporate more database functionality.
