Inspiration
I was inspired by the organizers efforts to spread awareness about the environment around us, as well as the abilities of the new flutter casual games toolkit, I wanted to try my hands at something new!
What it does
it is a pass-and-play mobile game where you compete against your friends to buy cities and plant trees, landing on a city with many trees will cost you! Buy sustainable energy companies and bike lanes, If you land on a tax card you have to pay an Environmental Tax! Trade properties with your friends and build your Own Green Empire!
How we built it
I built the game using Flutter, I used Audacity to edit the audio files, and Sketchbook to create and edit the image assets for the game. It was a learning experience for sure! I learned about game loops, audio editing, assets & how to create them among other things. I also learned a lot about the Flutter framework and its intricacies!
Challenges we ran into
laying out the board, and fitting it into a mobile screen form factor, managing multiple players. I had to design and redesign the game layout before finally being happy with it, the buttons had to be easily accessible, and the information had to be displayed in a compact and descriptive manner.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am particularly proud of the amount of work I managed to put out in such a short span of time and I am generally proud of the end result of my work :)
What we learned
I learned about new Flutter libraries, audio management, state management solutions. I also learned a lot about audio, asset and game design. I learned about a new layout library which is at the core of my game board!
What's next for Ecopoly
I am planning to make this game online and allow users to play from across the world, and hopefully publish the game on mobile app stores
