Inspiration
We were inspired by the growing climate crisis and the difficulty many people face when trying to understand carbon emissions data. We wanted to build a tool that makes sustainability information visual, interactive, and easier for people to explore and learn from.
What it does
EcoPilot is an interactive sustainability tool that visualizes global carbon emissions on a globe. Users can explore emissions by country, view sustainability efforts from major cities.
How we built it
We built EcoPilot using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The interactive globe is powered by Globe.gl and world geographic datasets, while emissions data and sustainability goals are mapped onto countries and cities to create an engaging visual experience.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was integrating global datasets and matching them correctly with countries on the globe. We also had to optimize performance and design the interface so that complex environmental data remained clear and easy to understand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating a fully interactive 3D globe that visualizes real-world emissions data. We also successfully added clickable countries, sustainability insights from major cities, and a clean interface that makes environmental data engaging.
What we learned
We learned how to work with geographic data, build interactive visualizations, and design tools that communicate complex global issues effectively. We also improved our skills in JavaScript, data mapping, and user-focused design.
What's next for EcoPilot
Next, we want to add more real-time climate data, track sustainability progress over time, include more cities and countries, and provide personalized insights to help users understand how they can reduce their own carbon footprint.
