Inspiration
As global cloud adoption grows, so does the invisible carbon footprint behind every deployment. We realized that developers often choose cloud regions based on latency or cost but rarely on carbon efficiency. That’s where our idea was born: What if we could make sustainability a default part of every deployment decision? Thus, EcoOps 360 was created a platform that empowers users to deploy smarter and emit less, bridging technology and environmental responsibility.
What it does
EcoOps 360 is a cloud-based sustainability intelligence platform that helps users identify and deploy their projects in low-carbon regions. It provides real-time carbon metrics for 9 global regions. Recommends the most sustainable region for deployment. Displays live insights and analytics. Features a built-in chatbot for sustainability guidance and cloud optimization queries. In short it makes cloud deployment decisions both data-driven and eco-friendly.
How we built it
Frontend: Built with HTML + CSS + JavaScript for a clean and responsive interface. Backend: Express.js, Node.js, Firebase for authentication and data storage. APIs: Integrated ElectricityMap API to fetch real-time regional carbon intensity, Gemini API for chatbot system and Firebase API for storing user details and region metrics. Logic: Implemented a smart recommendation engine to suggest the greenest region based on live emission data. Chatbot: Built using an AI-powered conversational model to assist users in sustainability queries. Hosting: Entire system deployed on a cloud-optimized stack to ensure scalability and reliability.
Challenges we ran into
Fetching and synchronizing real-time emission data across multiple regions. Balancing accuracy and performance while maintaining low API latency. Ensuring a smooth and intuitive UX while handling complex data visualizations. Aligning our cloud infrastructure with the very sustainability principles we promote.
Each challenge pushed us to innovate, optimize, and think beyond code to create meaningful tech for the planet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully built a real-time sustainability platform from scratch. Created an interactive dashboard that visualizes live carbon metrics for global regions. Implemented a smart recommendation system that actually helps users make greener choices. Designed a friendly, functional chatbot that makes sustainability approachable. Most importantly we built something that has real environmental impact.
What we learned
How powerful data-driven decisions can be in driving sustainability. The importance of UI simplicity in communicating complex environmental data. How to integrate APIs, optimize real-time performance, and build with purpose. That every developer can play a part in fighting climate change simply by choosing the right region.
What's next for EcoOps 360
Expanding beyond 9 regions to include global multi-cloud coverage (AWS, Azure, GCP). Introducing predictive analytics to forecast low-carbon windows for deployment. Building a sustainability score for organizations to measure their cloud impact. Partnering with green data centers and climate initiatives to scale real-world impact. Launching a mobile version and open API for developers to integrate EcoOps into their CI/CD pipelines.
