Inspiration

Even with the spread of the internet across the globe, many people in the world are still unreachable with the current banking system. Opening a bank account for example here in Kenya requires one to physically visit a banking hall and fill a lot of information which would rather be private. These banks are also limited in terms of exchange of funds. Just here in Kenya, sending money from one account in a different bank to another account in a different bank takes a lot of time(3 working days). This is something that shoud happen in seconds. Exchange of money from one currency to another also requires a third party. One moving from one country to another will have to exchange different currencies based on the country they are going to. paperless transactions are also still a dream because most of the transactions are paper based. The raw document for this research project is uploaded on github. ( Still needs some polishing though)

What it does

The economy management system provides a way for any person in the world to open a bank account at an instant and start transacting using their phone number as their key identity. It offers all the banking services including loans and saving benefits to its users a few clicks away. It uses machine learning to detect fraud on requested loans. I also offers a means for merchants to do business with users of the system without exchanging financial information.

How we built it

The prototype is built using C# and the .Net framework. I developed it as my class project this semester. It still needs a lot of polishing before it goes into production. Discovered this while writing the code.

Challenges we ran into

The code is complex and deals with real money. Needs a lot of focus, concentration and project evaluation to stay on the target.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I built the prototype system and wrote the initial documentation for the research project in less than two months. When I signed for the project I was skeptical and thought I would not manage to do it. I delivered it on time and discovered things that I am not seeing current banking sector employing. Still surprised

What I learned

The global economy can be put under one roof. Crypto is not the solution to global trade

What's next for Economy management system

These past few months I have just been drafting the idea and developing the prototype to know what's possible and whether I can do it. The next few months until August I will be developing the real product that can go into production. It will have an android mobile app and a website built using php. Data analysis and machine learning will be done using the R programming language. I have selected these languages because they are what I am conversant with and also I am the only developer in the team of one. (currently).
