Inspiration Project STRIVE was inspired by one powerful question: _ “What if Zimbabwe’s untapped talent could finally translate into real opportunity, clearly, directly, and without barriers?” _

Across the country, we saw the same pattern: • Students passionately coding on borrowed smartphones. • Freelancers with world-class skills struggling to find clients. • Rural learners stuck with potential but disconnected from pathways that lead to income.

Zimbabwe’s problem has never been a lack of talent, it’s the fragmentation of access, disconnected mentorship, and no unified bridge between learning and earning. STRIVE was born to solve that. It is a human-centered, AI-powered platform built to unify ambition, opportunity, and mentorship into one integrated digital ecosystem. It exists to ignite a future-ready digital workforce for every Zimbabwean.

What It Does

STRIVE is the engine of Zimbabwe’s learning-to-earning revolution, a seamless pathway from skills → validation → gigs → employment.

Learners

They take micro-courses, earn certifications, and build verified portfolios that lead directly to real work, micro-gigs, internships, SME projects, and full-time roles.

Mentors

They upload courses, teach, guide, and monetize their knowledge. STRIVE becomes the country’s first mentor-powered knowledge marketplace.

Organizations & Employers

Companies post jobs, hire certified talent, and connect with skilled workers instantly, ensuring skills translate into actual employment.

Econet Ecosystem Amplification

The platform is strengthened by seamless integration with trusted Econet services: • EcoCash – secure payments, gig payouts, mentorship earnings. • EcoSure – health coverage including optician & therapy support for digital workers. • Moovah – device & cyber insurance, protecting the tools learners depend on. • OmniContact – SMEs hire operational teams, HR, and marketing support instantly. • Yeukai AI – real-time support for EcoCash and financial guidance.

Our AI doesn’t just recommend, it understands. It connects learners to the right course, the right mentor, and the right opportunity that can transform their lives.

How We Built It

We built STRIVE as a unified digital ecosystem, merging education, employment, finance, and business support into one human-centered platform. Core Architecture • Frontend: React + Vite • Backend: Node.js • Database: MongoDB

Seamless Payment Integration

We embedded EcoCash APIs directly into STRIVE to enable instant, secure transactions for courses, mentorship, and gig payments.

Intelligent Gig-Matching Engine

We engineered a scoring system that evaluates:

Skill Match Score (40%)
Experience Level Score (20%)
Reliability Score (15%)
Learning Activity Score (10%) This ensures the right person gets the right gig every time.

AI-Powered Recommendation Flow

Instead of training our own model, we integrated external LLMs like DeepSeek through a secure orchestration layer. • Input Layer gathers skills, interests, learning history, job history & assessments. • AI Orchestration Layer uses structured instructions to guide the AI, not generic chat, ensuring accuracy and relevance.

Human-Centered Design

We co-built STRIVE with real Zimbabweans: • Akello teams • DPA specialists • EcoCash & EcoSure engineers • SMEs, startups, rural learners, and freelancers Their feedback shaped how STRIVE looks, behaves, and adapts.

Challenges We Faced

• EcoCash API Integration: Setting up real-time secure payments for a multi-user ecosystem. • System Synchronization: Building robust APIs to connect learning, gigs, portfolios, and mentorship under short timelines. • Rapid Workflow Development: Ensuring mentor uploads, certification flows, and portfolio updates were seamless and bug-free. • Inclusive Design: Making STRIVE low-data, mobile-first, and accessible for both urban professionals and rural learners.

In just three days, STRIVE became a working ecosystem, not just a prototype.
