Inspiration

Inspired by user interviews and reddit posts from r/sustainability, EcoNest is driven to make sustainable habits easier to build by taking care of a pet and sharing methods with others.

What it does

You are tasked to take care of an EcoBub, your own pet that you adopt once an account has been made. With each sustainable action you make, you will log it and your pet will be either happy or sad depending on what you do. EcoNest also acts as a community forum for others, sharing what people do to be sustainable in their lives. They also have the option of teaming with others and forming their own groups within the local region.

How we built it

I looked at r/sustainability, specifically looking at questions people had in terms of trying to become sustainable and whatnot. From there, I asked a few friends (2) about what they do to be sustainable. I created user personas based on the insights that I gathered from Reddit comments (anecdotal), statistics articles (statistics), and my user interviews to build the features of the app.

Challenges we ran into

Time crunch! I really only had 12 hours to do this because of some conflicting time so I could not prototype the model or develop any other frames than what I had right now.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Proud of the overall design and how it looks so far. There can definitely be room for improvement like prototyping, but this really invigorated my love for design again.

What we learned

Never have any events going on during a design-a-thon!

What's next for EcoNest

I would like to finish the features and move onto prototyping. I also want to try user testing, if that is possible.
