Inspiration

Vietnam is one of the most polluted countries in the world. As young individuals, we recognize our responsibility to take action and address this critical issue. Meaningful change requires collective effort—we can't do it alone. This belief inspired us to develop a solution that leverages the power of community. We believe that when a community comes together, we can tackle bigger problems.

What it does

𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐌𝐚𝐩: Eco-Friendly Route Planning

Utilizes AI-driven optimization to suggest routes that minimize air pollution. It factors in traffic data from the Google Maps API, pollutants (TSP, O3, CO, NO2, SO2), temperature, humidity, and vehicle type to predict AQI using our custom Random Forest model.

𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝: Local Eco-Friendly Spots

Guides users to eco-friendly cafes, restaurants, recycling facilities, and environmental events that support sustainable practices.

𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐈𝐭𝐞𝐦: Trade and Donate Used Items

Promotes waste reduction by enabling users to trade or donate used items within the community.

How We Built It

  • Frontend: React and Typescript.
  • Backend: Node.js, Javascript, and MongoDB.
  • Model Development: Python and Jupyter.
  • Trained a random forest model with datasets from Mendeley Data.
  • Integrated the model into our custom algorithm with Google Maps Directions API and weather APIs from OpenWeatherMap and Open-Meteo to predict AQI.

Challenges We Ran Into

We encountered a critical bug in the frontend just an hour before the submission deadline while preparing to record our video demonstration. Our team of four quickly switched to pair-programming mode and successfully resolved the issue.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Grand Winner @ AngelHack HCMC 2024: Won an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore for the World Finals, hosted by Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH), to pitch our idea in front of 15,000 people.
  • 1st Prize in the Social Responsibility Challenge @ AngelHack HCMC 2024: Received an additional USD 3,000.

What We Learned

  • The importance of teamwork and effective communication, even for the smallest details.

What's Next for EcoMove

  • Pitch EcoMove at SWITCH.
