Ecommerce Store

Inspiration

Being an aspiring developer, ever since I hear about convex I wanted to try this amazing solution in a project and this hackathon provided me with a reason to do so. What really inspired me to code this ecommerce website is that I want to try all the basic necessary features required by a backend solution in a project.

What it does

In this project I achieved a complete basic ecommerce website with the admin panel. There are three basic sections

1. Products
2. Orders
3. Users (Authentication)

We can fetch products and display them to all users as all products section. Only admin can add, update and delete products. All users make Orders from the website and view them in order menu and admin dashboard has a view of products of all users. Signed up users data is available for view in admin dashboard.

How we built it

I have used 4 major technologies in this project React JS, Tailwind CSS, Convex database and Clerk Authentication. Convex is database is all about mutations and queries which are used as follows

1. Mutations are used to insert, update and delete products and queries are used to display the required products form the convex backend to the frontend.
   1. Mutations are used to insert the placed order data in the convex database. And queries are used to display that data in the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

Convex database is a straight forward solution if you have worked on technologies like firebase there should be no issue. But the most challenging and time consuming part of my project was to add the feature of allowing the admin to update the products once it has been added to the database achieved it using patch mutation after bit of hard work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of this website which I was able to built in a fun way using exciting technology of convex backend. I am especially excited and relived that I was able to complete this project timely.

What we learned

I learned lot of new things during this project firstly I learned how to integrate a completely different technology into you project. I learned to meet the deadline while trying to maintain a bug free code.

What's next for Ecommerce Store

I want to take this store to a new level by adding new features and use other services offered by the convex backend as a service. For example I can introduce the feature of allowing the users to upload product pictures and store those pictures using convex file storage.
