Inspiration
We created EcoMind AI because so many people want to live a greener and more sustainable lifestyle, but they often don't know where to start or which daily habits actually make an impact. We wanted to build an easy tool that empowers local communities with smart environmental guidance.
What it does
EcoMind AI acts as a personal sustainability assistant. Users can ask questions about recycling, saving energy, or reducing their carbon footprint, and receive fast, practical advice tailored to their daily routine. It's powered by Google Gemini to make responses clear, accurate, and actionable.
How we built it
We built the web app using Next.js and TypeScript for a fast, modern frontend, integrated the Google Gemini API to handle AI reasoning and queries, and deployed the live app on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up the environment variables securely on Vercel and crafting the prompt structure to get clear, context-aware responses from Gemini during the tight hackathon timeline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting a fully functional, live demo deployed on Vercel with seamless Gemini API integration and a clean, user-friendly interface.
What we learned
How to quickly build and deploy full-stack Next.js applications integrated with LLM APIs under hackathon deadlines.
What's next for EcoMind AI
We want to add image recognition features so users can upload photos of waste items to get instant recycling instructions!
