Inspiration
The growing urgency of addressing climate change and the need for businesses to understand and reduce their carbon footprint inspired us to create EcoMeter.
What it does
EcoMeter utilizes user data to accurately calculate and display your carbon emissions, helping you understand and manage your environmental impact. We provide pages where users and companies can log in or sign up to calculate their carbon emissions based on various parameters. These parameters generate a graph that offers insights into their carbon footprint and suggestions for reduction. Users and companies can revisit the history page to review their data, helping them stay on track with their efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
How we built it
We developed the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while the backend for the sign-up and history pages is built using Python and Flask.
Challenges we ran into
File Paths: Managing file paths to save graphs in specified locations was tricky. Carbon Footprint Calculation: Accurately calculating the carbon footprint required careful consideration. Frontend-Backend Integration: Connecting the front end to the backend presented difficulties. CSS Styling: Some CSS styling aspects were particularly challenging. Aesthetics: We dedicated a significant amount of time to ensure our pages looked great, experimenting with various styles and spending hours on design and graph creation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're excited to have completed our first project that implements a backend, thanks to the collaborative efforts of our team members. It was a great experience learning how to connect the frontend with the backend, and we're proud of what we've achieved together.

We gained advanced skills in CSS styling, JavaScript, Python, and backend features and frameworks.
What's next for EcoMeter
Next, we plan to integrate more detailed analytics, offer personalized recommendations for reducing emissions, log previous history, and expand our platform to include real-time monitoring and reporting tools. We aim to continuously enhance EcoMeter to better serve businesses in their sustainability journey.
