Inspiration
We wanted to build an application that encourages individuals to make more environmentally conscious decisions in their daily lives, ultimately contributing to a healthier planet.
What it does
EcoMeter enables users to log their transportation choices, energy usage, shopping habits, and other sustainability-related behaviors, generating a quantified eco-impact score using our custom points system.
How we built it
We built EcoMeter using React, Firebase, JavaScript, VS Code, and Git, integrating authentication, real-time database functionality, and a responsive user interface.
Challenges we ran into
Our most significant challenges involved connecting the frontend and backend through Firebase Authentication and designing a well-balanced points algorithm that accurately reflects environmental impact.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully produced our first full-stack mobile application within 24 hours, integrating authentication, database structures, sensor-based features, and a comprehensive sustainability scoring system.
What we learned
Throughout this process, we strengthened our skills in JavaScript, React Native, Firebase, GitHub collaboration, and user-centered design, while learning to rapidly adopt and integrate new technologies under tight time constraints.
What's next for EcoMeter
Future plans for EcoMeter include public deployment, AI-generated sustainability insights, expanded barcode-driven product analysis, advanced analytics, and eventual publication on the App Store.
