Inspiration

COVID-19 pandemic is contributing to the increased usage of face masks. And most of these masks contain plastics or other derivatives of plastics that are harmful to our environment. So we need to come forward with a system that ensures proper waste disposal and recycling of masks.

What it does

ECOMASK is a non-profit organisation with a very small project that could be enormously helpful to the future of our world. Through our website, any person or group can create an account and register for recycling. We connect them to our chain of recycling centres and track the progress from waste collection to disposal or recycling. We also give rewards for consistent involvement and encourage them to share their experience with others.

How we built it

First, we searched for the most upcoming environmental threats and chose covid waste disposal as a topic. After some discussions, we came up with "ECOMASK". Then we divided the work among each other, some dealt with the designing part of the website, some with writing the contents. We made a prototype of the website using HTML and CSS and we all worked on it and made necessary changes.

Challenges we ran into

We had intermediate knowledge in web development, so it took some time in designing the website. And we had to check up on the list of environmental pollutions around the world and find sustainable solutions to them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We gained considerable knowledge of web development using HTML and CSS in such a short period. Some of our teammates did good research for the content and Also, for a few of our teammates, this was their first hackathon and the experience was remarkable.

What we learned

We learned how to find ideas in a short time and work as a team to implement those properly. Along with that, during the period we were able to learn in-depth about HTML and CSS. The experience of working remotely as a team was fascinating and gave us a lot of insights.

What's next for Ecomask

We want to include more and more people in our community, also tye up with medical institutions for increasing the recycling rate.
