Inspiration

We were inspired by the large number of events happening every day near our university and nearby localities, where huge amounts of waste were dumped after weddings, festivals, exhibitions, and public gatherings. Most of this waste was never properly recycled or reused, even though much of it still had value. This motivated us to build EcoLoop, a platform focused on smarter and more sustainable waste recovery.

What it does

EcoLoop is a smart waste recovery platform that connects event organizers, NGOs, recyclers, and industries through a centralized ecosystem. Organizers can report event-generated waste, recyclers and NGOs can request reusable waste resources, and admins can monitor and verify the entire workflow. The platform also provides waste tracking, route optimization, analytics, and sustainability insights.

How we built it

We built EcoLoop using React.js and Tailwind CSS for the frontend interface and dashboard system. We used FastAPI/Node.js concepts for backend architecture planning and MongoDB for database design. We also integrated mapping, analytics dashboards, and role-based interfaces for organizers, recyclers, NGOs, and admins.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was integrating the backend with the frontend while maintaining synchronized updates across all dashboards. We also faced difficulties designing scalable workflows for waste tracking, route optimization, and real-time status management between multiple user roles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a scalable smart-city waste recovery platform with multiple user dashboards, real-time tracking concepts, sustainability analytics, and route optimization features. We are proud that our project addresses a real-world environmental problem with practical and impactful solutions.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned full-stack application architecture, dashboard synchronization, route visualization, sustainability systems, and role-based platform design. We also gained deeper understanding of circular economy concepts and real-world waste management challenges.

What's next for EcoLoop

We plan to expand EcoLoop with AI-powered waste prediction, live vehicle tracking, carbon footprint monitoring, IoT-based waste management, and mobile application support. In the future, EcoLoop can evolve into a large-scale smart-city sustainability and urban waste intelligence platform.
