Inspiration

EcoLink was inspired by the growing need for environmental awareness and sustainable living. We wanted to create an interactive and engaging way to educate people about eco-friendly practices, empowering them to make informed decisions that benefit the planet. By combining VR technology with sustainability education, we aim to bridge the gap between knowledge and action.

What it does

EcoLink is a VR experience that allows users to explore a smart, eco-friendly home while learning about sustainable living. Users can interact with various elements, such as solar panels, water conservation systems, energy-efficient appliances, and recycling stations. The experience also includes a quiz system to test users' knowledge and reinforce key lessons on environmental sustainability.

How we built it

EcoLink was built using Unity 3D, leveraging the XR Interaction Toolkit for immersive VR interactions. The project includes interactive 3D models, dynamic UI elements, and scripted events that provide real-time feedback. We also implemented audio triggers and quiz mechanics to enhance engagement. The entire environment was designed to be both educational and visually appealing.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was optimizing the VR experience for smooth performance, ensuring interactions felt natural and immersive. We also faced issues with trigger-based interactions, where certain elements, like audio cues and quiz logic, didn’t respond as expected. Debugging these features required extensive testing and refinement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built an interactive and educational VR environment that makes learning about sustainability fun and engaging. The quiz system, real-time feedback, and intuitive navigation contribute to a seamless user experience. We’re also proud of the realistic solar panel reflections, water conservation systems, and recycling interactions, which add depth to the experience

What we learned

Throughout this project, we gained deeper insights into VR development, user experience design, and interactive storytelling. We also learned how to balance realism with performance in VR environments and how to implement gamified learning effectively.

What's next for EcoLink

Moving forward, we plan to expand EcoLink by adding more interactive eco-friendly solutions, such as smart grids, wind energy, and community sustainability initiatives. We also aim to introduce multiplayer or social VR features, allowing users to collaborate on sustainable projects. Additionally, we’re exploring ways to integrate AI-driven interactions for a more personalized learning experience.
