Inspiration
Everyone knows what's "good for the environment". But it's easier said than done to follow through on one's ideals. This is because people usually lack the motivation. With EcoLife, we bring a sense of competition, teamwork, and community to breathe new life into the mundane, "good-for-the-environment" tasks and lifestyle.
What it does
Tracks and logs users' daily, weekly, and monthly activities to generate a score to quantify their impact on the environment. Allows users to compare and view their standings in comparison to other users in the community. Generates graphics to display the aggregate community environmental impact.
How I built it
Used powerful front-end development tools such as Bootstrap in addition to Spring to power the back-end.
Challenges I ran into
It took much longer to develop with Spring than anticipated. As a result, a number of features don't quite work as intended.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We believe that the premise and idea behind EcoLife has great potential. The front-end is also adequately polished.
What I learned
We gained more experience with project management (i.e. planning, assigning work, scheduling) and experimented with professional back-end development tools such as Spring.
What's next for EcoLife
We'll keep working on developing the back-end and hopefully expand onto other platforms such as Android and iOS.
