Inspiration
Greenhouses gases are the gases that keep heat in the atmosphere carbon emissions such as fuel use are the main contributing factors to these levels. Many people do not realise how much their day to day activities impacts the environment and currently, there is not many applications that allow user's to easily understand this.
What it does
We have built an easy to use and interactive mobile app that encourages users to keep track of their carbon footprint recommends alternative strategies to keep their carbon footprint. The app will collect data through API's and manual entry to calculate a user's carbon footprint score. This will include:
- grocery vendors such as Woolworths and Coles to import Grocery data
- Google Maps to import travel distances
How we built it
The mobile application is built with React Native and the back end uses Java Spring. We designed this app by thinking about how to engage with users to make tracking their carbon footprint
Challenges we ran into
- Learning Spring and React Native as new frameworks
- Interactions and communication was difficult in a virtual environment
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The teamwork and deliverables that was outputted from this project
- Learnt new frameworks
What's next for Ecokeen
- A feature that allows competitions with friends and have worldwide rankings for leaderboards
- Partnering with supermarkets to allow a reward incentive for completing certain carbon footprint tasks or daily tasks
- Integrating with Google maps to automate travel details input
- Integrating with supermarket API to automate the grocery input
- Recommendations for users how to improve their carbon footprint usage
