Inspired by the growing need for sustainable consumer choices, we built a Sustainable Grocery Shopping Assistant. The app allows users to scan product barcodes and receive sustainability scores based on factors like carbon footprint and eco-impact. We leveraged Python, API integrations, and machine learning to calculate the scores. Key challenges included managing memory limitations for large language models and integrating external APIs. Despite these hurdles, the project taught us how to blend environmental data with AI to drive more conscious shopping behavior. This project helped us enhance our skills in API integration, front-end development, and sustainability awareness.
