Inspiration
We were inspired to help improve our environment. Climate change has become a huge issue in recent years, with a large percentage of the cause due to carbon emissions. We decided to target a specific factor (our homes) to resolve this issue at the forefront.
What it does
Ecohome is a website the #1 SmartHome tool that allows people to make more eco-friendly decisions and educate users on how to live a sustainable lifestyle. Ecohome lets you track the amount of waste produced and oxygen released by homegrown plants, as well as how much water and electricity consumption. Users are also guided on how to properly dispose of their trash from biodegradable to food waste. It rewards users for their eco-friendly actions!
How we built it
We followed the design process by using Figma to create prototypes and wireframes to visualize our product and goals. We collaborated through Discord and shared screens and ideas. After we finished planning we moved to using Visual Studio Code to build our website!
Challenges we ran into
Our team faced many challenges even before the hackathon. Initially, we had four members in our group; however, after multiple tries, we weren’t able to get in contact with our last members. During the hackathon we decided to build the website on Visual Studio Code; however, one of our members wasn't at all able to access the platform. There were a couple of times when another member glitched out of the site, which caused a lot of lost work time. Despite these challenges, we overcame the numerous difficulties and built the best application we could.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our teamwork and dispute the challenges we faced we all managed to not lose hope and push through.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate effectively online despite connection issues under a time constraint. All while building an application that helps our community.
What's next for eco-home
We plan on making Ecohome a more visually appealing and feasible application. We want to launch our website soon!
