Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project came from the need to create a simple yet impactful way for individuals to track and reduce their carbon emissions. We wanted to develop an interface that was light, user-friendly, and non-intimidating, allowing users to take small yet meaningful actions for the environment without feeling overwhelmed. Our goal was to encourage positive behavior change through gamification, making sustainability fun and rewarding.

What it does

Our project gamifies sustainability by allowing users to log eco-friendly actions, track their COâ‚‚ savings, and earn XP. Users can complete various challenges, such as biking, recycling, and using green energy, each contributing to reducing their environmental footprint. As users accumulate XP, they level up, unlocking new challenges and XP bonuses. Additionally, there are daily challenges that offer bonus XP for taking even more sustainable actions.

How we built it

The project was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We designed a clean, intuitive interface that allows users to track their COâ‚‚ savings, log eco-actions, and earn XP. Users can participate in daily challenges for bonus points, with a focus on sustainability-related tasks like biking, reducing waste, and using green energy.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing a seamless user experience with functional features like tracking emissions and XP. We also had to ensure the app remained visually appealing while effectively promoting sustainable habits.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned how to combine environmental consciousness with interactive design. We gained experience in building a system where users can log eco-friendly actions and earn points (XP) as rewards, motivating them to take even more sustainable actions. This helped us better understand both the technical challenges of developing a dynamic app and the psychological impact of gamification on user behavior.
