Inspiration

The inspiration for EcoGuild stemmed from a desire to leverage gamification as a tool for promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable behaviors. We recognized the power of gaming to engage and motivate individuals and sought to harness that power to inspire real-world action for the planet.

What it does

EcoGuild is a quest-based game where players work within a "sustainable guild," undertaking quests that engage in positive environmental actions. The game is designed to build characters capable of overcoming challenges through sustainable practices and eco-friendly behaviors.

How we built it

Main Interface

The main interface of EcoGuild consists of two main components: the variable interface and character statistics.

Character Statistics

  • Character Experience: Represents the player's progress and skill level.
  • Character Coins/Money: Used for purchasing items from the shop tab.

Menu-Based Interface

The interface is organized into three main tabs:

  1. Missions Tab: Lists quests that players can undertake to earn experience points.
  2. Shop Tab: Displays items available for purchase to enhance missions or increase rewards.
  3. Equipment Tab: Shows items owned by the player that can be equipped for various benefits.

Minigames

Mini-games accessible through the missions tab provide additional opportunities for players to earn experience and coins while promoting environmentally positive actions. These mini-games cover a range of activities, including recycling, energy conservation, and waste reduction. Each game features a time limit and a scoring system, with higher scores yielding greater rewards.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we faced was striking the right balance between entertainment value and educational content. We wanted the game to be engaging and enjoyable while also imparting important lessons about sustainability. Additionally, ensuring the stability and performance of the game across different devices and platforms required thorough testing and optimization.

What we learned

Developing EcoGuild provided us with valuable insights into the intersection of gaming and environmentalism. We learned about the importance of creating compelling gameplay mechanics that also serve a meaningful purpose.

What's next for EcoGuild

In the future, we aim to expand the game with additional quests, mini-games, and features to further encourage sustainable behaviors among players. We also plan to explore partnerships with environmental organizations to amplify the impact of in-game donations and promote real-world action for the planet.
