Inspiration

The inspiration came from how carbon footprint is an increasingly talked about subject in addition to fraud detection as identity theft has always been one of the main concerns for many people.

What it does

The platform offers bank connectivity to view all transactions of the user in addition to gathering specific transactions related to energy consumption. Our solution provides accessible data from transaction inputs based on their respective bank to detect fraudulent activity as well as track and inform household energy efficiency.

How we built it

We used React and HTML/CSS/JS for the front end and JSON, Node.js, and Express.js for the backend. We organized them into their respective directory, one for frontend, one for backend in addition to numerous subdirectories to organize the files, importing correct file paths and link the backend to the frontend. We incorporated the Plaid API to allow users to sign in to their bank and return the transactions.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was MongoDB connectivity, which continuously fail to connect when running the backend. Implementing the Plaid took way too long with how complicated it is. We encountered multiple merge conflicts in GitHub, knowing how to navigate through the bugs error, and what to keep in our front files.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Half of the team learned React, etc. during the hackathon and produced a functional front-end web application. There was the opportunity to learn and integrate APIs and Machine Learning modeling!

What we learned

Throughout the project, we learned aspects of front-end, APIs, and database management.

What's next for “EcoGuard”

Our next steps include enhancing the platform’s AI capabilities to offer personalized recommendations that help users track spending and improve energy efficiency. Additionally, we plan to introduce a fraud detection meter, guiding users to both reduce their carbon footprint and protect themselves from identity theft. This dual focus on security and sustainability will continue to be at the heart of EcoGuard's future development
