Inspiration

We feel suffocated and pressured during the hackathon and eager to take a walk out to breathe fresh air. The scenery on campus was beautiful, with birds and flowers. We feel the necessity to record that beauty, but also protect it. So we built the project to encourage walkers to record the animals and plants of the natural scenery with a rewarding system.

What it does

AI Discovery Snap a photo to identify birds and plants instantly. Species data logged into your personal collection. Smart Homepage Real-time weather and AQI data to recommend the best time and route for your walk today. Eco-Rewards Turn steps and badges into real perks: eco-friendly merchandise and partner rewards. Location-based social interaction Leave "Digital Drifting Bottles" at specific trees or spots for the next walker to discover.

How we built it

Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a lightweight cross-platform interface Backend: Python Flask with machine learning for species identification Infrastructure: Deployed on DigitalOcean Vision Model: YOLOV8n https://huggingface.co/Ultralytics/YOLOv8

Challenges we ran into

HTTPS Certificate for camera was hard to get. The model we used at the beginning had low accuracy, so we switched to YOLOV8n.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We integrated multiple tech stacks together.

What we learned

The technical skills we learned are fast prototyping via AI agents, incremental development, and quick deployment. We also found a way to harmonize human health and environment.
