Inspiration

We observed that many young adults and households in Singapore perceive financial literacy and climate action as competing priorities. Sustainable choices, such as 5-tick appliances or green investments, are often dismissed due to higher upfront costs, leading people to default to cheaper short-term options despite long-term financial and environmental consequences.

What inspired this project was the realization that the issue is not a lack of concern, but a lack of visibility. Without clear ways to visualise long-term return on investment—through utility bills or national climate goals—sustainability feels abstract and financially risky. We set out to make these hidden costs visible, reframing sustainable living as a financially rational and future-proof choice aligned with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

What it does

ECOFY is a Tech-for-Good desktop simulator that lets young Singaporeans experience the long-term financial and environmental impact of everyday household decisions. Players manage an idle-style household budget while making realistic choices, from appliance purchases to responding to electricity tariff hikes and climate-driven events.

The game tracks both cash flow and carbon impact, showing how short-term savings can compound into long-term financial risk. An LLM-powered “Voice of Consequence” translates raw data into localized, persona-driven feedback, guiding players toward achieving personal savings goals while keeping their carbon footprint within Singapore Green Plan 2030 thresholds.
