I have always wondered how Amazon works, and how Amazon is able to deliver packages so quickly. After a little bit of research, I discovered that in order to do single day delivery Amazon relies on a network of Independent Contractors that sometimes only carry one package.

What it does

My project is a chrome extension that injects HTML into the Amazon website displaying how much carbon will be emitted into the atmosphere because of your delivery.

How I built it

In order to do HTML injection, my extension got the contents of the web page and the modified parts of it. In order to estimate the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere, I used the Google Maps Distance Matrix API to calculate how many miles the distance was between your house and the nearest Amazon warehouse.

Challenges I ran into

Making an API call is impossible to do within a chrome extension. In order to bypass this, I used a python init script to build a Javascript with the distance between your house and the nearest Amazon warehouse.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I built a chrome extension for the first time and I also built a javascript file using a python script.

What I learned

I learned javascript, python and how to build a chrome extension.

What's next for EcoFriendly Ecommerce

I plan on making this work for other eCommerce websites
