Inspiration

We decided to create a carbon footprint tracker website to respond to the pressing global need to address climate change. Recognizing the significant impact of human activities on the environment, we aimed to provide individuals and organizations with a tool to understand and monitor their carbon emissions. By tracking their carbon footprint, users can gain insights into their environmental impact and identify opportunities for reducing emissions. Our goal is to empower people to make informed choices and take meaningful actions to mitigate climate change, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for future generations.

What it does

Our website consists of a few different features, including a carbon footprint calculator and a section describing how we can change to reduce our impact! The carbon footprint calculator analyzes various aspects of the user's lifestyle, such as transportation, energy consumption, and diet, to provide an estimate of their total carbon emissions. The educational section offers practical tips and strategies for reducing carbon footprints, making it easy for users to take actionable steps towards sustainability.

How we built it

Using HTML/CSS, we tackled our project using Repl.it. We split the work, making it easier to combine our ideas! By leveraging the collaborative tools available on Repl.it, we could seamlessly integrate our code and design elements, ensuring a smooth development process. HTML and CSS provided the backbone for our website's structure and styling, creating an intuitive and visually appealing user interface.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we faced included ensuring the accuracy of the carbon footprint calculations and integrating various data sources. Additionally, designing an interface that is both user-friendly and informative required several iterations and user feedback to perfect.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a functional and engaging website that addresses a critical global issue. Successfully implementing a robust carbon footprint calculator and providing valuable educational content are significant achievements. We also take pride in overcoming technical challenges and collaborating effectively as a team.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned a great deal about the intricacies of carbon footprint calculations and the various factors that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. We also gained valuable experience in web development, user interface design, and teamwork. Understanding how to communicate complex environmental data in an accessible way was a key takeaway.

What's next for Ecofootprint

Next, we plan to enhance EcoFootprint by incorporating more detailed analytics, expanding our database of emission factors, and developing a mobile app version. We also aim to build partnerships with environmental organizations to broaden our reach and impact. Additionally, we hope to introduce social features that allow users to share their progress and inspire others to take action.
