Inspiration
I was inspired by the sustainability aspect of the hackathon and wanted to create a game based on the improvement of earth's pollution.
What it does
The game is made up of a variety of catcher and collector mini games based on different elements of the earth. Each mini game is dedicated to the improvement of that specific element.
How we built it
I used code.org's sprite lab to develop the user interface and JavaScript to code the different interactive aspects of the game
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges that I ran into was with changing the screen in between each mini game. I solved this problem by having each continuation of the game be started by selecting a different button each time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am extremely proud to have put myself out of my comfort zone and participate in my first ever hackathon despite not knowing anyone else participating.
What we learned
I learned a variety of different things throughout the day from the many workshops provided. One of the things that stood out to me the most was during the Giddy up w/ Git presentation. I learned that Github is used by recruiters when looking to hire. I had previously viewed GitHub as a Q&A platform but now know to use it in a professional manner.
What's next for EcoExplorer
If I were to continue developing EcoExplorer I would implement a story line that shows the positive side effects of the previous mini games. For example, I would create a mini game that would allow the user to plant the seeds that were collected, or they would be able to interact with the sea life that was saved from the sea pollution.
