Inspiration

Our inspiration was to encourage donations to promote sustainability as a method of reuse and reducing waste. We wanted to educate people about how charitable contributions, such as donating clothes, allow them a tax-writeoff, which would contribute to more eco-friendly, less wasteful behaviors, while also benefitting the user.

What it does

Ecodona is a web application that allows users to upload their donation receipts after making a charitable donation. This helps them earn "Donuts", each equivalent to a dollar that can be donated towards their charity of choice. Once they reach certain levels of donations towards their charity of choice, they receive merch from that charity, which helps that organization promote their cause, while also incentivizing users to continue making donations to earn their tax write-off and merch.

How we built it

We built it with PHP, Javascript, HTML, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

We had an extremely limited time frame as we decided to pivot our tech stack halfway through the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are glad that we finished the project and were able to learn more about this tech stack, as most of us were not familiar with JavaScript and PHP.

What we learned

We learned more about our tech stack and how to properly delegate tasks to team members under a short time frame.

What's next for eco-dona

We would love to implement some actual scanning of the donation receipt with AR to read data. We also would like to have a mobile version, as that would benefit the accessibility of the application and promote it for on-the-go use.

Trying it Out

Below we have the link to the AWS instance. We've enabled account-free signin for visitors, but feel free to use "b.z.yang@wustl.edu" with any password to login and view a populated dashboard.
