Inspiration

I made many crucial memories on my grandparents family farm. The community that supported us made our entire business possible. I want to bring community outreach to farms in an accessible manner that's up to date with the internet and the current socio economic state of the world.

What it does

ecoConnect takes farms from the database (json), compares it to the users location (if permitted) and sorts them by closest to furthest away using the Haversine algorithm.

How I built it

ecoConnect uses the geolocation api and information sourced from google maps to provide users with an experience that is compatible on a wide range of devices.

Challenges I ran into

A large challenge that I ran into was finding a way to parse user location in a way that would be compatible on all devices and browsers.

What I learned

I learnt how to parse a json file and sort objects by values within them. I also built upon my skills of building a website using data from a file instead of hard coding information.

What's next for ecoConnect

The next steps in ecoConnect is to bring more organized information about these businesses to the website. Automation will be important for adding businesses to our database which would only be possible through funding or volunteer work.
