The Problem
Running a small business is tough enough without having to sort through hundreds of pages of dense federal regulations. Whether it's an auto body shop handling paint thinners or a local bakery running heavy industrial ovens, small businesses generate real environmental and safety footprints. But hiring an environmental consultant can easily cost $200 an hour, leaving many owners completely in the dark until they get slapped with an unexpected fine or environmental citation.
The Solution: EcoComply
We built EcoComply to bridge that gap. It’s an AI-powered safety and compliance assistant designed to give small business owners clear, plain-English answers in seconds.
Instead of reading through endless legal jargon, an owner can just type a quick sentence about what their shop does (or click one of our handy presets). EcoComply instantly acts as a digital compliance officer to deliver:
Real Legal Citations: It maps operations directly back to official codes like 40 CFR or OSHA 29 CFR.
Smart Gap Analysis: It doesn't just repeat what you tell it—it acknowledges what you're already doing right (like storing thinners in metal drums) and focuses your checklist on what you're missing.
Actionable Checklists: A clean, interactive checklist you can actually click through as you fix safety items around your shop.
Risk & Grant Matching: It outlines real fine warnings while connecting businesses to local programs, like state-level EPA pollution prevention grants.
Easy Exports: You can download the entire assessment as a Markdown file to keep for your records.
How We Used AI
AI is the brains behind the whole app. Powered by fast, high-performance open models (llama-3.3-70b via Groq) with strict JSON formatting, the system parses messy, real-world descriptions and translates them into a structured, reliable compliance report. It keeps the reasoning tight and grounded, turning a complex multi-hour legal research task into a 2-second web experience.
