Inspiration
The idea for Eco Calculator was inspired by the growing awareness of climate change and the urgent need for action. We wanted to address this global issue in a way that not only educates but also empowers the younger generation to be part of the solution.
Middle school students often learn math concepts like multiplication, ratios, and percentages without fully understanding their real-world applications. By combining math education with sustainability, we saw an opportunity to create a gamified platform that connects abstract math concepts to everyday activities.
Our inspiration also came from seeing how small lifestyle changes, such as using public transportation or reducing energy consumption, can collectively make a big impact. With Eco Calculator, we aim to instill these values early, helping students develop eco-conscious habits while improving their math skills.
What it does
Eco Calculator is a gamified educational app designed to teach students about sustainability while improving their math skills. The app achieves this by allowing users to calculate the carbon footprint of everyday activities, such as traveling, eating, or using electronic devices, through interactive math challenges.
How we built it
1.Concept Design:
- Brainstormed ideas to align math learning with sustainability.
- Sketched wireframes for a user-friendly interface.
Technology Stack:
- Frontend: ReactJS for interactive UI components.
- Backend: Node.js and Express to handle user inputs and calculations.
- Database: MongoDB for storing user progress and activity data.
