Our planet is facing an intensifying deforestation crisis, one that poses profound threats to environmental sustainability, economic stability, and human livelihoods. In Africa alone, an estimated 22% of its tropical forest cover has vanished since 1900, an alarming rate of loss that mirrors the devastation occurring in the Amazon basin. These forests, referred to as the lungs of the Earth, are vital carbon sinks, harbor immense biodiversity, and play a critical role in regulating global and regional climates.
What it does
Our solution harnesses the power of low-cost, low-power embedded AI to enable real-time monitoring of forest environments. By deploying audio-based TinyML models powered by the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense via Edge Impulse, our system detects sounds associated with illegal logging activities, such as chainsaws and axes.
