EcoAI – AI-Powered Smart Waste Management Platform

EcoAI is an AI-powered Smart Waste Management Platform designed to improve waste segregation, optimize waste collection, and promote sustainable recycling practices. The platform combines Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and full-stack web technologies to create an intelligent ecosystem that connects citizens, municipalities, and recycling industries.

Users can upload an image of a waste item through the web application. A custom-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) built using TensorFlow/Keras analyzes the image and classifies it into categories such as plastic, paper, metal, glass, organic waste, or e-waste. Based on the prediction, EcoAI provides recycling recommendations and proper disposal guidance, helping users make environmentally responsible decisions.

To encourage public participation, EcoAI introduces a gamified reward system where users earn Eco Points for correctly identifying and segregating waste. Leaderboards and user rankings motivate continuous engagement and promote sustainable habits within communities.

For municipal authorities, EcoAI offers a Smart City Dashboard that provides real-time insights into waste generation patterns, recycling statistics, waste category distribution, and environmental impact. These analytics support data-driven planning and improve waste management efficiency.

The platform also includes Smart Bin Monitoring, which tracks waste bin fill levels and identifies bins requiring immediate collection. Based on this information, EcoAI generates optimized collection routes, reducing unnecessary trips, fuel consumption, operational costs, and carbon emissions.

Another unique feature is the Industry Matchmaking Module, which connects bulk waste generators with nearby recycling industries and processing plants. This enables recyclable materials to be reused efficiently, supporting a circular economy and minimizing landfill waste.

Unlike existing waste management solutions that focus on individual problems, EcoAI integrates AI-based waste classification, citizen engagement, municipal analytics, smart collection planning, and industrial recycling into a single scalable platform. Built using Python, Django, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQLite, and Chart.js, EcoAI demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence can make cities cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable.
