Inspiration
We are dealing with the lethal virus (COVID 19) which has spread all over the world and put us in danger. COVID 19 pandemic is considered as the most crucial global health calamity of the 21st Century. It has affected the International economy badly due to is spread, many affected countries decided to decreases the infection rate by applying complete lockdown which affected the economy. Also the manpower must stay safe at the same time of getting the same production! Moreover, no import and export at all these days or actually months. The financial services around the world have influenced by the crisis of COVID 19, especially in the industrial field, In many aspects: factories, import and export, and many other things. we also found that the process of production of many products stopped because of the crisis.
What it does
Our goal is to reduce the number of workers ”human power” in the factories and to produce the same amount of production. We thought we can make workers work from home, controlling the machines in the factory from home by their laptops or cell phones. Make an IOT system that provides a platform for workers only to attach with the machines and work from home that helps them stay safe. If we applied this idea the number of workers will be reduced but the factory still needs workers to collect the products from the factory, managing the online work, and also perform maintenance of machines every period until it makes sure that everything is working in the right way. our application will manage this point as it will make a schedule for workers who will go to the factory. Also, it will be connected to security cameras located in the factory. The main target is related to the concept of a whole network system between the machines and workers’ mobiles.
How we built it
We learned what is a network and how it works connecting both mobiles and machines together, we knew about the PLC (programmable logical controller) this is the mind of machines. It performs its orders that are programmed in PLC. We wanted to connect PLC of machines with a mobile app as workers can manage machines and turn them on from home. They will send their orders by our app then make machines perform it- completely controlled-. We will make sure to connect all the machines with each other by network and make an app that controls the PLCs of the machines due to our platform. This will serve as a remote control for the machines.
Challenges we ran into
Economic challenge: To reach our goal -as mentioned before- the machines of the factory must be connected with each other, to make one production line which moves in order from the machine to the next without any external factor. This was our first challenge as there are some factories that include this attribute and others not. The second challenge was programming PLC and make a connection between the machines and the mobile as the programming language for PLC is ladder language. We now work on how can we make this connection between the app and the machines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proudly, we achieved various skills dealing with like these systems -IOT, machines, and also the controlling network. Making a line for a specific group of people ”each factory independently ” is not easy but the way of our thinking was different to just use a mobile app!! Of course, we will be much proud by the financial recovery as soon as possible with enough care of health, too.
What we learned
We learned many things about machines and production lines, we also understood how PLC works and controls the machines, we knew its programming languages, IOT connection with both mobile and machines, creation of a platform, how to deal with all these things deeply are some of our gains.
What's next for Eco-Work
Now our idea is on small scale, as each factory has its own app, this will cost the country and the owners of the factory. We thought we can make a platform that specefied with the factories and if any factory wants to apply working from home, it won't need to make an entire app to perform it. The factory will connect in the platform and set its data then the work will start from home. We want to need a platform like a classroom but related to factories instead of making apps for each factory.
