Inspiration

Vivian and I found our inspiration from social media. We noticed how people were becoming more vocal about the harsh working conditions of the people who create the clothes we wear and also the damage textile production has on the environment as a whole. It inspired us because we have control over what we buy so we want to be more conscious of it and inform others about it.

What it does

Our website is very simple and straightforward. It describes the issue with unethical fashion, the problems that come along with it, and solutions. Our website is an educational website that provides resources for those who want to help the cause to participate. There are many links to where you can buy from to reduce your carbon footprint and also provides an interactive quiz where you can test what you know about fast fashion.

How I built it

We built it with HTML CSS JS and used lots of tutorials to see how we can add certain features, etc. We collaborated on repl.it to create this website.

Challenges I ran into

Both of us are new to HTML CSS JS so we came across challenges many beginners face with coding. Our navigation bar was one issue that required a lot of tutorials and research to create and enhance. We struggled with making the navbar in the right order. We also struggled a little bit with the CSS portion since there are so many ways you can style a website. It was a challenge to come up with an idea of how to make the website more user interactive.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We both are proud of being able to create a website in the first place within 2 days. We are also proud of just being able to create interactive features in the website and being able to use our limited knowledge on HTML CSS JS to be vocal on a social issue.

What I learned

We learned a lot more about web dev in general since it is new to us. We learned how to style a website to make it more aesthetic and we also learned more about collaboration and what it takes to create a website together.

What's next for Eco Style

Our next steps would be to provide more insight into why this cause is so important and also to provide news coverage on what is happening to the workers of the textile industry. We would also add more ways that people can become more sustainable in their fashion choices and help others achieve this goal as well.
