Eco Smart Neighbourhood

Inspiration

The inspiration for EcoSmart Neighborhood came from observing the daily struggles of our neighbors and friends in managing waste and energy resources efficiently. The disconnect between community members in tackling these issues was evident, and we wanted to bridge that gap. The UN's SDG 11 resonated with us as it aligns perfectly with the need for sustainable urban development, and we saw an opportunity to make a real difference by leveraging modern technology.

What it does

EcoSmart Neighborhood is a comprehensive web application that promotes urban sustainability by enhancing waste management, energy optimization, and community engagement. It uses AI-driven waste sorting guides to improve recycling, schedules waste pickups efficiently, and offers rewards for proper recycling practices. The platform provides real-time energy usage monitoring and personalized energy-saving tips to help residents reduce consumption and integrate renewable energy sources. Additionally, it fosters community engagement through an interactive forum, event calendar, and volunteer opportunities, encouraging residents to participate in local sustainability initiatives and collaborate on projects.

How we built it

We will be using : ASP.NET Core MVC, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Firebase SDK ASP.NET Core Web API, Azure SQL Database, Firebase Realtime Database, Azure Cognitive Services Azure Active Directory B2C

We're incredibly proud of overcoming the obstacles that stood in our way and launching the first phase of our web application. This achievement is just the beginning—there's so much more on the horizon. What truly sets us apart is our ability to work together seamlessly, turning our shared vision into reality through clear, effective communication. The journey ahead is exciting, and we're ready to tackle it as a united team!

What we learned

As a team, we've collectively mastered a new language: SignalR. This powerful tool has enabled us to bring real-time graph displays to life, enhancing the dynamism and interactivity of our application. It's been a game-changer in how we visualize and present data!

As we approach the next and final phase of developing the Eco Smart web application, we're focused on bringing everything together to deliver a truly transformative experience. This phase is all about refining the user interface, optimizing performance, and integrating the advanced features that will make the application not just functional, but intuitive and impactful. Our goal is to create a platform that seamlessly blends technology and sustainability, empowering users to make smarter, eco-friendly choices. The journey has been challenging, but we're excited to see our vision fully realized in this final stretch!
