Inspiration
I was reading National Geographic and realized that despite the many innovations in managing waste and creating sustainable products, the key cause of Climate Change still remains. Over consumption.
What it does
Displays Co2 and total money spent. It adds up each little purchase, each little luxury item bought and presents it for the user. It allows the user to see the enormous magnitude of each small decision. Thus they realize the extent of their possible wastefulness and also their potential to help the environment AND save themselves a lot of money. Helps their own lives and helps the planet.
The magnitude of both their money spent and co2 emitted incentivizes users to care more about sustainability or at least spend less/more consciously. This is a new way of looking at problems that cause climate change and clearly outlines what the user can do to help and what their impact will be. (watch vid for more details)
How we built it
Grind then 3min power nap, then repeat.
Challenges we ran into
Calculating Co2 emissions of each product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building an actually helpful and functional application.
What we learned
React is cool and I need to learn more CSS.
What's next for Eco Save
In the future, We hope to partner with Amazon and Google among other companies for use on their platform. We plan on displaying the corresponding co2 emissions of each product next to the price which will allow users to make more environmentally friendly decisions before purchasing.
