Inspiration

We started with a simple observation: while climate change is a global crisis, for most young people in India, it feels distant and abstract. They may hear about melting ice caps or 2°C warming, but they rarely see what it means for their city, their health, or their daily life. Climate education in schools is often textbook-heavy, not interactive, and seldom actionable.

That’s where the idea for Sarthi (EcoSaathi) was born — a friendly AI-powered coach that makes climate change personal, local, and actionable.

What It Does

Sarthi takes real environmental data from India (air quality, rainfall, groundwater) and turns it into: Personalised stories (child, teen, adult versions) that explain how climate change affects your life. Simple action plans (3–5 steps) that show what you can do daily, with impact estimates like CO₂ saved or water conserved. Local insights in English, Hinglish, and regional languages — so climate literacy is accessible to everyone. In short: it helps learners go from “I’ve heard of climate change” → “I understand what it means for me” → “I know what I can do about it.”

How We Built It

Frontend: React + TailwindCSS with Zustand for smooth state management and a mobile-first UI. Backend: Django + LangChain orchestrating LLMs for structured story and action generation. Data Integration: OpenAQ (CPCB-linked air quality), NASA POWER (rainfall, temperature), and CGWB static datasets (groundwater) to ensure real, trustworthy insights. AI/ML: Hugging Face models for text generation, plus grounding via LangChain to avoid hallucinations.

Design: Colour theme inspired by nature — deep greens, warm saffron, soft neutrals — to make it hopeful and hackathon-friendly.

What We Solved

Made climate education relatable by tying it to real local data. Gave youth clear, personalised actions instead of vague advice. Bridged the gap between awareness and action through stories + impact metrics. Ensured accessibility via multilingual, mobile-first design — crucial for Indian classrooms and rural communities.

What’s Next

Add more Indian data sources (IMD for rainfall, state-level energy data). Expand multilingual support (Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali). Build a WhatsApp chatbot version for rural accessibility. Introduce community features (classroom challenges, local leaderboards).

With Sarthi, climate literacy is no longer abstract. It’s your city, your story, your impact.
