Inspiration

We were encouraged to produce EcoRoute because of the startling statistic that Canada has on average the worst fuel efficient cars. Canadians drive cars that emit a whopping 200 grams of C02 per km driven and at . After reading these statistics, we wanted to provide a tool that would encourage and aid Canadians in using sustainable modes of transportation, but we also acknowledged that a large barrier against adopting these sustainable alternatives was how time consuming they are. So, our approach to this problem was to implement a tool that promotes a more sustainable lifestyle while respecting the time constraints of individuals. We believe that EcoRoute is a step in the right direction to live completely sustainable lives.

What it does

EcoRoute curates the most environmentally friendly yet time efficient path for any given destination and time! It uses Google Maps API to gather the different paths for walking, biking, and driving to the location, and takes this information to calculate an EcoRoute for you!

How we built it

We used javascript, css, html, and react to build our website tool. To retrieve the paths we used Google Map's API.

Challenges we ran into

Lots of bugs and errors we came across that we had to fix and adapt to. Especially showcasing the map UI and transferring the data from Google's database to our program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our website design and implementing the map to the UI.

What we learned

We all learned more about javascript, css, html as well as how to access Google's database

What's next for EcoRoute

Cleaner website, transit functionality, better parking analysis/compensation.
