Eco Quest

Inspiration

We were inspired by the lack of motivation to live sustainably that many young people face today. Now more than ever it's easy to feel lost and pessimistic about the future of our earth

What it does

Eco Quest is a website where users can complete tasks that will improve their sustainability. They can complete their own custom tasks, and be rewarded with points, and levels due to their own efforts. On top of this, there is a batch file that can be downloaded that will reduce the energy usage of one's computer.

How we built it

We built the website on Visual Studio. It makes use of CSS styling, HTML, and JavaScript. On top of this, we made a batch file that was made and tested on an ordinary Windows computer.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges including having to work as a team even though our values did not always match up, and having to code it in a short time period. We also had to learn how to utilize our HTML and coding abilities even further.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

After many disagreements, challenges, and a short time period we made a fully functioning website that encourages people to live more sustainably. We are also proud of creating the batch file as we think that it is a unique way for one to reduce energy usage that is not very commonly thought about.

What we learned

We learned that coding in a group can be pretty challenging and is not as easy as it may seem. We also figured out how to code in HTML and batch script a lot more effectively.

What's next for Eco Quest

Coming up for Eco Quest we would like to add built-in tasks through using a database of ecological tasks. We would also like to add adverts that would go towards green-based nonprofit organizations that are working towards a greener, and brighter future. We would also like to add a leaderboard and media page where users can show what they have done to reduce their carbon footprint. We would also like to add a daily fun eco fact that would educate what users could do to reduce their footprint. We will also solve bugs and improve user experience on the website. One last thing we will do is to broaden our supported operating systems for our Eco Optimize code.
