-Inspiration: We were inspired by how island communities can be especially vulnerable to severe weather and limited resources. We wanted to create a way to help communities prepare and make smarter decisions during emergencies.
-What it does: Eco Island monitors live weather conditions and tracks energy and water resources. It detects the severity of conditions and automatically prioritizes essential services like hospitals, water systems, and shelters.
-How we built it: We built Eco Island using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. JavaScript connects to the Open-Meteo API for live weather data, while the code analyzes conditions and manages the simulated energy and water systems.
-Challenges we ran into: One of our biggest challenges was getting the live weather data to connect correctly and making sure the app responded appropriately to different weather conditions.
-Accomplishments that we're proud of: We're proud that we created an interactive app that combines real-time weather data with automated emergency resource management in one dashboard.
-What we learned: We learned how APIs work, how to connect live data to a website, and how JavaScript can use that data to make automated decisions.
What's next for Eco Island: -Next, we want to connect the app to real island sensors and microgrids instead of simulated data, and add more features to help communities prepare for emergencies.
