Inspiration
The idea for Eco-Friendly Recipe Hub was born from our concern about the environmental impact of everyday food choices. With climate change, food waste, and carbon emissions on the rise, we wanted to explore how we could encourage more sustainable cooking practices. The inspiration came from realizing that the kitchen is one of the easiest places to start living more eco-consciously. We aimed to create a platform that makes sustainable cooking simple, fun, and accessible to everyone.
What it does
Eco-Friendly Recipe Hub is a website that features recipes made with sustainability in mind. Each recipe is carefully curated to use locally available, seasonal, and plant-based ingredients. The site also provides step-by-step instructions.
How we built it
We developed the website using Google Sites for its simplicity and collaborative features. The process included researching sustainable food practices, creating structured pages for different recipes and designing the pages and using images to enhance visual appeal. We ensured that the content was beginner-friendly, informative, and visually engaging to appeal to a broad audience.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to assess the environmental impact of certain ingredients due to limited data. Designing a clean and engaging layout without compromising on navigation or readability took time. Coordinating research, content creation, and design within the timeline was challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud about the fact we could successfully launch a functional, informative website that encourages sustainable living and in turn promoted awareness about eco-conscious food habits among our peers and community.
What we learned
We learned how to apply research into a real-world, practical tool that can create awareness. We also learned about team collaboration, time management, and web design skills. Most importantly, we also discovered this powerful connection between food choices and environmental sustainability.
What's next for Eco-Friendy Recipe Hub
We plan to expand the website by adding more recipes based on different meal categories, regional cuisines and dietary needs, introducing a blog section for sustainability tips and stories, enable user-submitted recipes with eco-ratings and integrating a meal planner and carbon footprint calculator.
