Inspiration

Everyday, there are tons of small habits we can make to reduce carbon emissions and other negative effects on the earth's ecosystems, and we thought gamification of an app would make it more appealing and fun to adopt eco-friendly habits.

What it does

The app provides the user with a list of everyday, sustainable tasks with leaf points rewarded for completing the task when the user presses the plus button on the eco-friendly habit listed. The app also utilizes a leaderboard system, showing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place users, and the user's score in leaf points and relative position. More over, the app utilizes a rewards section, with rewards such as claiming 150 trees and earning enough leaf points to attain a rank. The app also provides a dashboard upon entering the app to show their total leaf points and their streak of completing eco-friendly habits everyday.

How we built it

We utilized Figma for designing each of the mobile app pages - the home page, the login & signup page, dashboard page with the leaf streak, and utilized the prototype feature to link buttons on each page to other pages.

Challenges we ran into

Each of us built separate pages of the Eco Friendly Habit Motivator App, leading to us modifying some elements of each of our pages to create one cohesive UI/UX style of a coffee colored background, leaf icons, and a sage/brown background color of buttons and features to create an eco-friendly theme.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely happy and proud of our app working in the Figma present mode, which works seamlessly for navigating between each of the pages through the bottom tab bar.

What we learned

Through the development of the Eco Friendly Habit Motivator App, we learned the importance of cohesive design and collaboration in creating a seamless user experience. Working on separate pages taught us how to align on a consistent style guide and color palette to maintain a unified aesthetic. We also deepened our understanding of Figma's design and prototyping tools, gaining skills in linking UI components and building an interactive prototype. Additionally, this project emphasized the power of gamification in driving sustainable behaviors and how thoughtful UX/UI design can motivate positive change.

What's next for Eco Friendly Habit Motivator App

Our next steps for the Eco Friendly Habit Motivator App involve transitioning from the design prototype to a functional mobile application. We plan to integrate backend services to store user data, track leaderboard rankings, and implement streak-based rewards. Future features include:

Social Features: Enable users to form groups, challenge friends, and share achievements to encourage community participation. Carbon Impact Metrics: Provide insights into the user’s cumulative environmental impact, such as carbon emissions reduced or trees saved. Partnerships and Rewards: Collaborate with eco-conscious brands to offer tangible rewards like discounts on sustainable products. Mobile Deployment: Launch the app on iOS and Android platforms, ensuring accessibility and scalability for a global audience.
