Inspiration

Personally, I am really interested in environmental sciences and am passionate about reducing climate change. When I expressed my idea about creating a carbon footprint calculator to my teammates, I was elated to see their positive response.

What it does

Eco friend is a mobile app which provides services to Reduce carbon foot print. It provides services like: 1.carbon foot print calculation

Provide detailed knowledge about carbon foot print
Provide facility to set individual goal to reduce carbon foot print

How we built it

The whole shape of the app was given by Anya. Anya used HTML,CSS and typescript to bring the app together in ionic framework. Our app was divided into three functions: 1.Carbon foot Calculation- done by Anya -using HTML,CSS, Typescript. 2.Detailed information- done my Smriti-using HTML in Replit 3.facility to set goal- done by Nazeefa- using HTML, CSS, JavaScript in sololearn

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenge of course was the time zones. Yet we somehow managed to work it out. All the three members of our team has different skills and different experiences it was difficult to bring all this together.

What we learned

Smriti's Journey: After reading everyone’s introductions on the discord server, I reached out to people who were looking for a team and had similar experiences with programming as me. We made a group chat and discussed our project ideas and how we wanted to execute it there while also helping each other work with different parts of the project. This was my second hackathon and I wanted to gain more experience working in different fields that I hadn’t encountered before. After forming a team I wasn’t sure which topic everyone would be equally interested in working on, but after hearing one of our group member’s pitch about creating an app which told a user about their personal carbon footprint, I felt really excited to start working on it. It was fun researching and finding out more about carbon footprints and their impacts on the environment and I feel like I gained more knowledge on it. Collaborating and working with my team members was also another exciting thing that came out of this hackathon and it definitely added to the experience. Anya's Journey: This was my first ever hackathon and I didn’t know what to expect at all. While reading everyone’s introductions I was a little intimidated but once I found my team I was very comfortable and we were able to share our ideas. The tracks allowed us to explore our creativity and chose something that we were passionate about. Personally, I am really interested in environmental sciences and am passionate about reducing climate change. When I expressed my idea about creating a carbon footprint calculator to my teammates, I was elated to see their positive response. Working on this project has been a very unique experience and it has made me go out of my comfort zone as I don’t usually work in teams. In the end, we were able to put together an app that we all worked very hard on and tried our best and most importantly, I had so much fun and learned a lot of new things. I can’t wait to participate in more hackathons. Nazeefa's Journey: This is my first time working in a team. It was great. I learnt about different platforms of work that I never know about. I learnt about carbon foot prints while trying to find a proper formula for constructing the carbon foot calculator.

What's next for Eco Friend

Oppurtunity to log in and log out and store the users information to build a community. People can share their progress with the rest of the community and inspire others.
