Inspiration

The project was inspired by observing declining produce quality in local grocery stores and learning about changing farming practices through conversations with elders and farming families.

What it does

Eco Eats investigates the impact of chemical fertilizers on soil health and nutritional value while promoting awareness of sustainable, organic farming practices within the Loudoun community

How we built it

The team conducted research on soil ecosystems, distributed a community survey on food quality, and engaged in hands-on volunteering with Anna Sudha Kitchens.

Challenges we ran into

The initiative addressed complex issues such as the economic pressures faced by farmers and the limited community awareness regarding soil degradation and organic food benefits.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The team successfully gathered community insights through surveys, volunteered to serve nutritious meals to shelter homes, and established a vision for a healthier community.

What we learned

Research and engagement revealed that soil health is foundational to food quality and that youth-led initiatives are essential for driving community-wide sustainable change.

What's next for Eco Eats

The team plans to organize school workshops, collaborate with local farmers markets, and expand their community survey to over 100 participants
