Inspiration

People find climate data overwhelming and lack a "safe space" to practice eco-friendly decision making.

Some issues include:

  • confusing product labels
  • abstract carbon footprints and
  • low engagement in text-only education

What it does

Eco Choices is an interactive simulation game app that turns lifestyle choices into high-stakes educational challenges. Users can choose an environment and go through select living choices Our key features are:

  • 1) Interactive Game
  • 2) Personal Profile
  • 3) Leaderboard

How we built it

We followed a UX/UI design process to gather research from resources online, identify user pain points, create personas, user stories, user journey maps, problem and hypothesis statements, and finally establish some key features. In doing so, we were able to better understand our users' needs and frustrations. We used FigJam to create user flows to model how a user would navigate the website, and we used Figma to create wireframes and high fidelity prototypes. Lastly, we used Canva to create an engaging presentation for our video.

Challenges we ran into

With the short amount of time for this project, we were not able to include all the features we wanted to design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we were able to cover a large part of the UX/UI design process given the limited time for this project, and we're glad we took the time to engage in user-centered design. We're also proud of our wireframes and prototypes, and the time we took to carefully design them.

What we learned

We learned that people care about climate change and feel personally affected, but many feel overwhelmed and confused, which can prevent them from taking action. We learned more about how important user-centered principles and how to effectively use research in informing our design process. Additionally, we learned more about creating wireframes and microinteractions in Figma.

What's next for Eco Choices

Some of our future goals include:

  • Incorporating accessible design to ensure all users can enjoy our app
  • Allowing users to use points to buy items for their environment
  • Introducing a multiplayer option so users can play with friends
