Inspiration
I was inspired by how difficult it is for people to understand their personal environmental impact. Climate change feels abstract, and most carbon footprint tools are either too complex or inaccessible. We wanted to create something simple, fast, and understandable, showing that even small daily habits can have a measurable impact.
What it does
Eco-Agent is a lightweight web application that calculates a user’s carbon footprint based on everyday habits such as transportation, diet, and energy usage. It instantly provides: total CO₂ emissions an Eco-Score visual equivalents (trees, distance, etc.) practical, actionable tips to reduce environmental impact All of this works directly in the browser with no backend or registration required.
How we built it
Eco-Agent was built as a fully client-side web application using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. All calculations are performed locally in the browser, ensuring fast performance, simplicity, and user privacy. The focus was on clean UI and instant feedback.
Challenges we ran into
Translating abstract environmental data into something users can easily understand. Designing a meaningful and intuitive Eco-Score. Balancing a minimal interface with useful information. Iterating quickly under hackathon time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A fully functional app with no backend dependencies. Instant results and clear feedback for users. Clean, intuitive, and user-friendly interface. Strong educational value with real-world relevance.
What we learned
How to transform complex data into simple, visual metrics. How to design user-focused educational tools. How to prioritize features and iterate efficiently during a hackathon. The importance of clarity and accessibility in sustainability-focused projects.
What's next for Eco-Agent
Saving user results and tracking progress over time. Adding regional averages for more accurate comparisons. Mobile-first optimization. Multi-language support. More interactive visualizations and insights.
