Echo track – Ultrasonic Rail Defect Detection
Inspiration
Inspired by railway safety challenges, we aim to detect hidden track defects early and help prevent potential accidents.
What it does
Echo track uses ultrasonic signals to identify potential internal defects in railway tracks and provide early alerts.
How we built it
We designed a prototype using ultrasonic testing sensors, ESP32 and signal processing to analyse received signals and detect abnormal patterns.
Challenges we ran into
Selecting suitable sensors, maintaining proper contact, reducing noise and accurately identifying defects were key challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed an innovative ECE-focused concept combining ultrasonic technology, embedded systems and railway safety.
What we learned
We gained knowledge of ultrasonic testing, sensor interfacing, embedded programming and signal processing.
What's next for EchoTrack
We aim to improve detection accuracy, test different types of rail defects and develop a portable railway inspection system.
