Inspiration

Traditional college grievance systems are often opaque, slow, and intimidating for students. We were inspired by the need for a "Student-First" digital bridge—a platform where students can report issues (from academic stress to infrastructure) without fear of being ignored. We wanted to move away from messy email threads and toward a structured, AI-ready dashboard that prioritizes safety and transparency.

What it does

Based on your project files and the Devpost submission screen for the Gemini 3 Hackathon, here is a comprehensive Project Story tailored for your specific app, "AdvocateAI: Smart Student Resolution System."

You can copy and paste this directly into the Devpost text area shown in your screenshot.

Inspiration Traditional college grievance systems are often opaque, slow, and intimidating for students. We were inspired by the need for a "Student-First" digital bridge—a platform where students can report issues (from academic stress to infrastructure) without fear of being ignored. We wanted to move away from messy email threads and toward a structured, AI-ready dashboard that prioritizes safety and transparency.

What it does AdvocateAI is a unified grievance management system featuring:

Dual-Role Access: A secure portal for both Students (to submit/track) and Admins (to resolve/analyze).

Smart Priority Engine: An automated logic system that scans reports for critical safety keywords (like "harassment" or "safety") and immediately flags them for urgent attention.

Anonymity Guard: Allows students to report sensitive issues while keeping their identity hidden from departmental staff.

Live Tracking: Provides a unique Tracking ID for every grievance, allowing students to verify status updates in real-time.

Admin Dashboard: A high-level overview for faculty to track resolution rates and manage the institution's "Live Grievance Feed."

How we built it

The project was developed with a focus on speed and high-fidelity UI:

Frontend: Built using HTML5 and Tailwind CSS for a responsive, modern glassmorphic interface.

Logic: JavaScript (ES6+) powers the "Sentiment Analysis" engine and the real-time state management.

Architecture: Structured as a modular web application with a client-server file organization.

Icons & Assets: Integrated Lucide-JS for intuitive visual cues and Plus Jakarta Sans for a professional institutional look.

Challenges we ran into

One significant challenge was managing state and data persistence without a heavy backend for the initial prototype. We overcame this by implementing a robust LocalStorage API architecture that simulates a NoSQL database environment. Additionally, ensuring that the "Anonymous" feature functioned correctly while still allowing the system to generate valid tracking IDs required precise logic-gating in JavaScript.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the UI/UX design, which manages to look professional yet approachable. I successfully implemented a keyword-based sentiment analysis that can identify critical grievances instantly, which is a major step forward from standard static forms. The "Tracking ID" system works flawlessly, giving students a sense of agency and transparency.

What we learned

During this hackathon, I deepened our knowledge of utility-first CSS and learned how to build a complex, multi-user dashboard within a single-page application (SPA) framework. We also learned how important data visualization is for institutional management—leading us to integrate a statistics-heavy admin control center.

What's next for AdvocateAI: Smart Student Resolution System

Gemini API Integration: We plan to integrate the Gemini 1.5 Flash model to automatically summarize long grievances and suggest pre-drafted responses for admins.

Multimodal Evidence: Enabling students to upload photos/videos of campus issues for AI-powered visual verification.

Cross-Platform App: Porting the web interface into a dedicated mobile app for instant push notifications on grievance status updates.
