Inspiration

Our journey with Echos began from recognizing the crucial need for advanced, yet accessible customer service tools for small businesses and entrepreneurs. This demographic often lacks the technical expertise or financial resources to implement complex AI solutions. We chose WordPress for our launch, recognizing its widespread use and appeal among non-technical users. Our goal was to provide these users with powerful, easy-to-use tools that had previously been accessible only to large companies with significant resources.

What it does

Echos is an adaptable AI customer assistant designed for visual builders, making customer engagement tools available at the click of a button. By answering just ten simple questions, users can set up a chatbot tailored to their business's unique needs and style. Yes, this takes less than 15 minutes. Echos enhances user experience by performing emotional analysis on incoming messages, categorizing them to enable more effective responses. It also provides valuable metrics such as session counts and stores conversation logs to help businesses improve their customer interactions.

To try Echos we created a sample site you can visit! To see the dashboard: https://wordpress.com/home/sampleclothings.wpcomstaging.com Username: admin@thecoresites.com Password: W3i6t5av6EcSwPY Try the chatbot: https://sampleclothings.wpcomstaging.com/spice-dice/

How we built it

We built Echos on the Google Gemini AI platform, using the Gemini API PHP client available at https://github.com/gemini-api-php/client. This choice provided a robust foundation for deploying sophisticated natural language processing capabilities integral to the AI's operation. The backend of the plugin was developed using PHP, the core language of WordPress, ensuring seamless integration and stability. For the frontend, we utilized JavaScript to create dynamic and responsive user interfaces, enhancing the user experience by making interactions smooth and intuitive. The development process prioritized simplicity and user-friendliness, focusing on an intuitive setup process that users with minimal technical knowledge could complete without any coding. This approach allowed users to integrate Echos into their WordPress sites efficiently, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the Gemini AI platform without the complexity typically associated with such technologies.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we encountered was the design of a user interface that was both robust and user-friendly for those without technical expertise. Achieving a balance between the sophisticated capabilities of our AI and ensuring straightforward accessibility for all users proved to be a complex endeavor. Additionally, fine-tuning the prompting mechanisms to obtain accurate and relevant responses from the Gemini AI platform was a significant hurdle. Through numerous iterations and refinements, we successfully enhanced Echos' ability to deliver precise answers that meet users’ expectations. We also implemented a system where Echos clearly communicates when it lacks the necessary information to respond, maintaining transparency and trust with users.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating Echos, a tool that brings AI technology closer to small businesses and entrepreneurs. The ability of Echos to conduct real-time analysis and categorization of messages has the potential to transform how customers engage with our users' websites. What seemed impossible at first, with several rounds of iterations, suddenly became a reality, and we now have an MVP for Echos.

What we learned

Through the development of Echos, we deepened our understanding of plugin development and the potential of AI technology to boost conversion on websites. We addressed the challenge of simplifying complex technology to make it accessible for non-technical users by leveraging our user-centered design skills and gaining valuable insights from potential users.

What's next for Echos

We are excited to continue evolving Echos. Future developments include adding new features such as message type analysis and real-time alerts via SMS and email. We are also working on a drag-and-drop visual builder to make customization even simpler. Additionally, plans are underway to expand Echos's capabilities beyond WordPress, transforming it into an iframe-based technology that can be integrated into any site, significantly broadening its applicability and reach. We also want to migrate the database to a cloud service, so that we can gain insights on how the clients are interacting with Echos, keep track of the amount of users, and manage potential subscriptions.
